The Melandro Valleyembellished by the homonymous river, it is one of the most beautiful and evocative of the southern Apennines, hidden and little known, it is even more mysterious and fascinating. Inhabited for centuries by a quiet and industrious people, today in the era of globalization it strengthens its identity and acquires a unique value not easily found elsewhere: traditions, history and nature are mixed in a magical and exciting formula. The proposed itinerary wants to tell, through the discovery, the quality of the micro-dimension of this valley where hospitable people welcome visitors, hikers and tourists in an authentic way, relying on naturalistic contexts that are the strong point of these places. Why choose to stay in this valley? Because you will have something to remember, to tell your friends, because you will learn to appreciate simple and unique things. The journey begins in Brienza , the ancient Burgenzia, dominated by the majestic Caracciolo castle of the Angevin era, surrounded by a medieval village where you will be hosted in a historic, refined and charming "La Voce del Fiume" residence, you will taste typical and organic products and you will hear the voice of the Pergola river which flows into the Melandro river a few kilometers away. The next day, the journey continues to discover the medieval village of Brienz a and its majestic castle, visit to the Convent of the Observant Friars Minor with the frescoes of the Michelangelo school, visit to the centuries-old oak of the Roverella which is registered in the register of monumental trees. In the afternoon we continue toward Sasso di Castalda mountain village just 6 km from Brienza, arrival at the Tibetan Bridge and excursion in the nearby woods of the Costara and San Michele localities .


On the third day we go to the historic center of Satriano (about 10 km from Brienza) and its famous "Murals" , followed by a visit to the rocky area of ​​the cellars in the rock of Sant'Angelo Le Fratte . The return will be full of emotions and experiences that the visitor will bring with him.


The itinerary in detail:


1st day: Arrival in Brienza

Arrival at the Historic House La voce del Fiume in the afternoon. Welcome drink and presentation of the Historic Residence. Free exit for the town.Dinner at a typical restaurant of the area with tasting of traditional Lucanian dishes


2nd day: Brienza / Sasso di Castalda

Breakfast on the panoramic terrace based on products of the rich biodiversity of the area, sweets and homemade jams. Visit to the medieval village of Brienza, the Caracciolo Castle and the Mother Church of the Assunta. The visit is completed by meeting the statue of Mario Pagano, martyr of the Parthenopean Republic, visit to the Convent of the Observant Friars Minor with the frescoes of the Michelangelo school and continue to a hill that dominates the entire course of the Melandro river up to the visit to the oak centuries-old of the Roverella which is registered in the register of monumental trees. Lunch in a typical restaurant with the narration and tasting of typical Lucanian products. After lunch we set off to discover Sasso di Castalda, a mountain village just 6 km from Brienza, arrival at the Tibetan Bridge and excursion to the nearby woods of Costara and San Michele. Here you can take a trekking route to discover a luxuriant beech forest. We are at about 1500 meters above sea level, in an area of ​​absolute relaxation where you can capture and appreciate the smells and sounds of nature. Dinner in a typical Lucanian restaurant.


3rd day: Satriano / Sant'Angelo le Fratte

Breakfast on the panoramic terrace based on products of the rich biodiversity of the area, sweets and homemade jams. This is followed by a visit to the historic center of Satriano (about 10 km from Brienza) and its famous “Murals”. Visit of the rocky area of ​​the cellars in the rock of Sant'Angelo Le Fratte. Path of murals and statues. Lunch at a typical Lucanian restaurant.
