Weekend discovering Basilicata with a workshop on typical Lucanian taralli

An itinerary in history through ancient recipes. 


Day 1: Arrival in Brienza

Arrival at Dimora Storica La voce del Fiume in the afternoon. Welcome drink and presentation of the Historical House. Free time to explore the town. Dinner in a "typical Lucanian restaurant" with traditional products such as truffles, canestrato, caciocavallo podolico, soppressata sausage, cruschi peppers, bread from the wood-burning oven, wines from the Cantine Lucane.

Day 2: Brienza/ Sasso di Castalda

Breakfast on the panoramic terrace with products from the rich biodiversity of the area, cakes and homemade jams. Visit to the medieval village of Brienza, the Caracciolo Castle and the Chiesa Madre dell'Assunta. The visit is completed by a statue of Mario Pagano, martyr of the Neapolitan Republic, and a visit to the Convent of the Friars Minor Observant (now the town hall) with its frescoes of the Michelangelo school and the nearby Church of SS Annunziata. Continue to a hill overlooking the entire course of the Melandro river, visit to the chapel of the SS Crocifisso. Packed lunch with tasting of typical Lucanian products in the surrounding equipped area.

Return to the hotel and participation in the workshop of typical Lucanian taralli.

3rd day: 

Sasso di Castalda Visit to Sasso di Castalda, a mountain village only 6 km from Brienza, arrival at the Tibetan Bridge and excursion to the nearby woods of Costara and San Michele. Here you can take a trekking route to discover a lush beech wood. We are at an altitude of about 1,500 metres, in an area of absolute relaxation where you can capture and appreciate the smells and sounds of nature. Dinner in a typical Lucanian restaurant.

THE B&B offers a three-day itinerary (Friday-Sunday).

The package includes :

  • 2 nights in a double room including a "home made" breakfast with typical products 
  • Friday evening dinner in a typical local restaurant
  • packed lunch on Saturday with tasting of typical Lucanian products
  • participation in the workshop of typical Lucanian taralli
  • Saturday evening dinner with typical products at a typical restaurant
  • guided visit to the medieval village of Brienza
  • guided visit to Sasso di Castalda and the woods of Costara (trekking on foot). 

The typical restaurants involved will offer a taste of the ancient dishes of the "Lucanian culinary tradition" and will propose only local products at 0 km.

Among the typical products on offer, special mention should be made of "podolica", one of Basilicata's five slow food presidia. The podolica, typical of the southern Apennines, will be sampled for its meat and renowned caciocavallo cheese.
